Gas Struts For Bin Cover

Recently built a shed for my wheelie bins.

Where could I buy gas struts for lifting the lid? Guessing it's about 8KG.

Most of the options on Amazon are for kitchen cabinets so probably more lightweight.

Yes, they tend to be crazy prices though.

Otherwise, take a trip to a vehicle-breaker's yard and source some from there. You'll need to drill a hole through the two heads to allow mounting on a bolt.

They are not too badly priced, I'd say a boot of a car would be circa 30kg...

Says the eject force is 450N (45kg).

How will that behave with an 8kg lid? Will the user have to close it with 37kg of pull?

I guess you would arrange the mounting points to give the right mechanical advantage, so that it would just barely lift the lid without assistance and be easy to close.

Yes I'm not to sure on the output whether it would be too much for the bin lids. I know when I have had one side in the car fail the other comes up much slower to compensate.

Do you have any sort of overhang on the back of the lid? Any weight there will counter-balance the weight of the lid...
