Most of my friends won't go to mass or church on Christmas Day. They say, and I agree, it's just not the same, there is a terrible emptiness about it all now and most feel nervous about coming in contact with others. In particular my CoI relatives (and I) just want to sing those carols until we burst a blood vessel but of course we daren't do that, so a lot will just watch the religious services on tv.

I'll give you a belated reply.......I went to mass(on Christmas eve as the forecast for Christmas day was for bad weather)and it was honestly the highlight of my Christmas. It was such a glorious experience its hard for me to articulate and I'm not catholic (at least not at the moment, but that's a whole other discussion). The church was packed, full of families, children, older folks. There was an organ player and a Choir singer, the priest himself was singing the carols loudly. Even walking into that church though I felt the presence of God, the sense of peace was almost tangible. There is no substitute for being in a church, especially a traditional Catholic building, watching services online just isn't the same. Anyway that was my experience and if you haven't returned to in person services yet I'd encourage you to do so.
