What DJs Have Been On One Radio Station The Longest In Ireland?

This thread is all on DJs that have been on one station for longest time. The only DJ I can think of would be Larry Gogan who was on RTÉ 2FM from it's launch in 1979 until his death 2020 just nearly about 2 years ago. There may be someone on Radio 1 who's lasted just as long though.

John Bowman (Bowman Sunday 8.30AM RTE R1) is the longest serving radio presenter in the country, with RTE's main radio service since about 1966? AFAIK. Dave Fanning has been broadcasting on 2fm since day one on May 31/June 1 1979.

Ian Dempsey has been on the same station in the same time slot for 23 years now.

Ronan Collins must be in the mix there somewhere - started out on RTE Radio 2, but has been on Radio 1 for quite some time now.

A few of the daytime presenters on Mayo's Mid-West Radio have been there since the station's pirate days of 1984 - 88.

I am sure there are other locals, with lots of on air staff there since 1989.

Funny that, I'm a Dub, moved rural 20 years ago, was renovating a cottage for a few months, no TV etc, Turned on the Radio to be greeted with obituaries, I thought, mother of God, what have I let myself in for, haven't listened to local Radio since 😁

A, yes I recall East Coast , was a great station, I'm from Cabinteely area so was able to pick it up. Actually met Jim a few times (a gentleman), I was Head chef at a well known haunt of RTE staffers back in the early 90's

Now I'm in the sticks and there's some pretty awful local stations

Seán Bán Breathnach is the second longest serving presenter in the country, I'm not sure how long he has been with RNAG, He started on RTE radio 1 in 1969 and he was with 2fm in the early days, himself and John Bowman are the only two presenters with a regular slot who have been broadcasting since the 1960s.

Dermot Moriarty has been on Radio Kerry for over 30years. I think Ted Carol has as well.

Derry O Callaghan on 96fm in Cork has been there a long time too.

A credible mention to Myles Dungan; he's been with RTÉ in various roles since 1977. And as you mentioned on another post, SBB has been on forever and a day.

There are of course a lot of radio stations in Ireland, but few have been on the air since 1926.

One might mention Eileen Dunne who I seem to remember worked for Lorna Madigan in Pres. for a while.

Marty Whelan joined RTE in 1979. But he was in pirate radio before that according to Wikipedia.

Marty left RTE in 1989 and went to independent radio (the failed Century radio) - after some years on RTE TV and filling in occasionally on Radio 1 (Late Date, Rising time etc)he returned to RTE Radio on a more permanent basis in 2005 to 2FM then Lyric FM, so in total he has been on RTE radio for around 26 years.

Ronan has been on the national airwaves 5 days a week for over 42 years which is certainly is a great achievement but he's only been on the 12 noon to 1 slot since about 2006.

Ronan is certainly the only consistent mon - fri presenter still presenting - with the longest service on the one "station" RTE Radio (Radio 2 / Radio 1)

Larry, of course, had many years consistent mon - fri shows on Raidio Eireann and Radio 2FM, though did weekends only from around the mid 00's.

Barry Dunne has been with Dublin's 98FM since 1996. He is now more than 25 years with them. I believe he holds the record for the longest deejay to date on one local Dublin independent commercial station.

You will get some 40+ of the same show across different stations.
