Aer Lingus question about changing flights

I am finding it very difficult to get full detailed answers from the website or from the webchat.

I am thinking about rescheduling a flight booked for next week using the free change. The only rule I can see is that it has to be done more than 2 hours before the flight. I can't see details of when I can travel. Is it any flight currently available for booking? Van I rebook for August and change it again if needed?

I thought I had read that I can change it multiple times but I can't see that anywhere now.

I have tried the webchat but they keep giving me half answers or answers that show they havent read the question. I will phone the number given tomorrow.

I’m having an issue with this also at the moment. Aer Lingus say they don’t have a change flight fee, although you may pay a fare difference. What they don’t say is that they do expect you to pay the taxes again. So for example if my flight fare is €30 with taxes and charges €50 (€80), then to change to another flight worth €80 I don’t pay any fare difference but I do need to pay the €50 taxes again.

when did Aer Lingus become Ryanair? Surely this can’t be legal? At best it’s false advertising.

Aer Lingus are absolutely useless. I wanted to ask them about this "extra cost" and after a slow moving chat which took over an hour, they finally asked me to call the call center because they did not know the answer. I was then waiting 1 hour for an agent. She asked me for my email and then disappeared for 15 mins straight! I knew all this was a tactic to get me to hang up but I didn't. When she came back, her line was very bad and she said she would call me back in 10 mins. I trusted her but she never did call back (which I saw coming).

I called again and it only took 45 mins this time. I'm pretty sure it was the same agent but anyway she was unable to tell me why there was an extra cost - she just kept mentioning "fare difference" and I'm not sure she even understands what that means. Between the 2 calls, I came upon this thread and I even offered an explanation to her - flight taxes are not being transferred. For some reason she vehemently denied that it was anything to do with taxes :)

I agree though, this is false advertising for sure.

Same thing is happening me and have been all day via the chat, phone and twitter trying to get a answer. Bit different to above whereby i am getting only the tax waived, there charging full fare so my original fare doesnt seem to get discounted from the new fare.

Maybe my understanding is incorrect but i thought when changing flights, you pay the fare difference which was:

New Fare - Original fare = fare difference?

Just got off the phone with them too.

Turns out its like I said, they’re only applying this no change fee for the fare price (mine is 6.99 in this case) and not to the other taxes and charges.

Even though the flight I want to change to is only €6 more than my original, they want me to pay €44 extra but I’m not going to pay that on principal.

    Very strange indeed.

That's why the confirmation for my new flight in 2022 has a lower total value than expected.

My original flights last week came to €3100 approx. I looked at same destination in summer 2022 and total showed as €3090. Great, I thought and logged into my flight to move it to the new dates. It doesn't tell you the price of the new flight. It only tells you what you have to pay and in this case it was zero, just as expected. Also I was delighted that I was holding the value in case I availed of the unlimited moves with no change fee once 7 days in advance (after January).

When the email confirmation came, it shows the new flight at €2765. I was too exhausted with the whole thing to query it as it was clear it was an Aer Lingus scam that was only going to cause me more stress and take up more time so close to Christmas.

From previous posts it seem this was taxes and charges for 5 passengers.

Family had booked to fly to a us city recently. Turned up at airport to find that the flight was rescheduled to take off two and half hrs later . This was our fault as you are encouraged to check flight details frequently. The flight , by Aer Lingus, to Boston was to connect to a flight to Orlando. The original booking- all through Aer Lingus, indicated that there was a two hour waiting time in zBoston but because A L did not reschedule the Boston Orlando leg , we had to arrange it ourselves at Boston Airport. We had to fly to Orlando via JFK airport and this added on 6 hours to our overall journey time. Not easy with 3 kids in tow.. I raised the issue with an A L official in Dub and was brushed off with a “ the AL staff in Bos will arrange that for you”

I fail to understand why AL when booking in at Dub did not also rearrange our ongoing internal flight in the US. While we were waiting for our JFK connection we heard two flights directly to Orlando being called. On enquiry they were fully booked. BUTif booked from Dub there may have been a few empty seats.

WAS IT LAZINESS ON AER LINGUS PART?

EI don't do code-shares well. While it was technically your own fault for not checking your itinerary, EI should have rearranged it at DUB - I would have stood my ground and asked for a supervisor. Did you not receive an email detailing the schedule changes? Laziness for sure - they probably didn't want to deal with the knock on effect of luggage etc.

With regard to the direct flights to Orlando, which airlines were they? Not all airlines have an agreement with EI. Orlando is a high traffic route so there's no way of knowing if there were available seats or not. The chances of getting 5 seats on a last minute flight, well, let's just say you were very lucky.

Trying to change my booking with Aer Lingus from mid January to the end of February to Paris.

If booking as a new customer it is coming in at €80 less than what I paid when I booked my original booking.

To change my flight dates only (same number of passengers, times etc) it's costing me €330.

Spent over an hour on hold waiting to speaking to a Customer Representative, not very helpful or clear as to why the difference other than fare differences, not tax related. My original fare was 6.99 or something, new fare is over €42, I asked was that €42 including taxes and charges, representative said no.

Anyone else get to the bottom of these charges?
