Tonight's episode, always remember this as the house wasn't too far from me and remained as a burnt out shell for many years.

From what i recall it was an attempted insurance claim due to him being in major debt. He owned or ran a pub in Blessington at the time.

You know me by now, and you know that I cannot understand emotive statements the way you do.

Looking at the linked article I could understand if it was claimed that the associated family felt they could not forgive him for what he did. But I cannot understand why they would feel in danger for their lives. There is zero motive to go after anyone.

He murdered his wife and adopted child for nothing. Except for fear of exposure for abuse of swimmer during an adoption clearance check.

The man will always be dangerous. And he was also persistent,, there were a few failed attempts that were passed off as accidents

Not at all, just remember the case, though clearly not enough if i thought it was to do with insurance. Just recall that being a rumour at the time in relation to the 'threats' made against the pub.

Agree there is no reason for the family to be 'fearful' about any impending parole, though i do wonder why there was no further investigations into his role as a swimming coach given he fathered a child with a minor

It was obviously a good enough reason at the time, even if it seems pointless to us. People have killed for less, but at least he was clumsy enough to get caught easily.

I only caught the tail end of this program but gather he had a kid with a minor when he was her swim coach. But how did he explain this to his wife when adopting the child, was there some kind of cover story?

Id heard of the George Gibney case before but never realised it was connected to this one and Gibney and McCann were collaborators in abusing children. Was there a specific swimming club somewhere that the two of them were operating from?

There was 3 of them Derry O Rourke as well they regularly met up in McCann's house as well. He never told the wife about the kid with the young one he was abusing that's why he killed her and the child so they wouldn't find out.

The child in the house with them was his sisters child(rumoured to have been fathered by him as well) the wife didn't know anything about the other child.
