Seized Valve - Solution to Fix / Replace

No idea why Boards.ie is rotating the image.

The valve at the 'bottom' of the picture has seized and I need to turn off the water to replace some taps.

Is there anything I can do to easily release the valve or are there replacement type of valves that can be 'attached' to the pipe and screwed into place whilst the current one is just left in place? I think I saw one of these on a YouTube video a while back but can't locate right now.

Drain down the system and just replace it. Is it your heating system?

There's a kit I've used before to freeze the pipe, worked very good, you can pick it up in B&Q or Woodies, it's a bit of insulation you cable tie around the pipe and you spray in from a can that freezes the pipe, you would need to do it both sides then undo the fitting and replace, use the same olives and nuts?

Oh I see you say water, if it's mains there's a valve at your water meter now.

I would suggest that you loosen the nut at the bottom of the valve spindle (about 1/4 turn max), this will release the packing on the valve spindle and may allow it to turn. It is the small nut immediately under the valve wheel (which is removed). Make sure you re-tighten it afterwards. There isn't much really to make those gate valve stick (just the friction of the valve packing around the spindle, which is compressed around the spindle when that nut is screwed down).
