Hi all hope someone can help. Wine was stopped and airport and i received mail to pay excise duty and tax with no payment. I made the payment using pps number through revenue website but custom agent wants me to come in to complete the paperwork. Has anyone ever gone there? Do you know why this is?

That’s all you have to do, you’ve paid the duty, Revenue is happy, enjoy your wine.

Thank you for your replies. I will have to go in on monday and fill out some form where i declare the wine is mine. I wonder what happens to my data though. They will prob take a picture of my passport. I was wondering whether there is anything to worry about. Not sure why we could not do this over the phone as i have nothing to collect there

I had assumed you carried the wine with you, or was it shipped to the airport and stored by an agent until duty was paid ? If that was the case, the agent may want “paperwork”

No i misunderstood the regulation by mistake , my fault so only fair i would pay what is due. It was meant to be stored by agent until the payment had been made but they released it in error i assume even before i had paid. So situation is : i did not fly with wine. It was stopped. I paid duty and vat. They still want me to go in and fill out form. I believe once the payment has been made i have paid my tax so i am not sure why they would still want me to come in.

I would ask them to send the form by post.

Tried but nope they booked me in for monday at 10:30. Maybe i am reading too much into it. It is just the first time this has happened to me so maybe thinking it over too much

They can’t force you to attend, but if you’ve agreed, don’t sign anything you’re not entirely happy with.

Don’t give them any personal information, you have paid Revenue. The agent may only be interested in

getting their bill settled, so no need for passport. Maybe bring someone with you for support.

Yes they want me to sign this document where i state i am owner of wine and that the payment of the excuse duty and vat settles the matter. I assume i would have had to do that over phone and send it in. My understanding is that custom agents are part of revenue anyway.

Customs agents are not part of Revenue, they provide a service to importers but are not employed by Revenue. They would have expertise in making sure all required documentation is completed, so you won’t have anything to worry about during your visit. Then you can really enjoy your wine.

Customs officers/officials are part of revenue.

Customs agents that work in independent importing companies or work as single agents are not.

Your wine was stopped by a customs officer. You are declaring yourself as the importer and self declaring.

If I imported via my company I would appoint a customs agent to deal with the customs officers and I would have given a signed written instruction to the agent. The agent would sign customs forms on my behalf.

They are simply asking you to sign the normal import forms. It will just get filed away.

Thank you! It is an idemnification form where basically i declare that. Only thing is my deliverable address does not match where i live as i am flying soon for a wedding and did not think the wine would get here on time. Do you think that could be a problem?thanks
