HubController - EEOS Scheme

    Hi all

I have been offered a HubController including installation for my house at no cost to me. I was confused as to how the installer https://thehubcontroller.com/ was being paid and concerned they were planning on using my €700 home heating controls upgrade to cover the cost. To be clear, this is not a zones installation, it is only the controller on the wall.

I called HubController and they advised it's not a grant they are using but is actually the EEOS scheme where they are receiving a carbon credit from obligated suppliers for the installation which they will then cash in to cover the cost. The guy in fact stated that they would only be able to install the device provided that it was NOT a zoned system since that's what the particular EEOS scheme credit they are utilising covers.

My concern is that if down the line I do get zoned heating installed with zones, I will have used up a credit I could have otherwise had deducted from my installation cost for that later upgrade. The guy from HubController confirmed the device that will be installed is single-channel only and therefore NOT compatible with a zoned system so in the event I do get the zone upgrade in the future, I will then need a new controller.

The house is pre-2006 and qualifies in all ways for all the above upgrades both within EEOS and the SSEAI scheme.

Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something here? No such thing as a free lunch as they say...

    Thanks

I just had a browse over their website. "What is the HubController?" left me no better educated as to what it is other than a thermostat with an pro-green attitude. How does it measure room temperatures in any location other than where the controller is?

I'm all on for supporting local jobs, but I'm not seeing the unique selling point here; and as for a lack of zone support, surely that's a basic requirement of any energy saving tool?

To be honest, from my reading it's little more than a wifi capable switch and timer but compared to the 1990s digital clock thing I have, anything is an improvement.

I'm just not clear if I'm doing myself out of a credit for a system upgrade that I might get in future which would also require a controller, multi-zone in that case.

Anyway it's 6.00pm and the guy is coming at 9.00am tomorrow morning so I guess I'll have to roll with it now...

  • Had signed up to have this installed, but didn’t take long to figure it’s a bit of waste of time and energy.

i’d rather just pay out of pocket and get a Google Nest thermostat or something like that.

Yeah I did ask the guy if there will be separate thermostats installed anywhere around the house (like I think it is for climote, nest, hive etc?) but he said no, the thermostat is in the base unit so yes, definitely not better than any of the above systems but still better than what I have which is no thermostatic control at all other than the controller on the gas boiler but that measures the water temperature and not the air temperature.

So it's an isolated Raspberry Pi with a relay in the back. Right.
