Mysterious Object On The Far Side Of The Moon

The Chinese lander and rover mission to the far side of the moon, Chang’e 4, the very first spacecraft to land on the lunar far side in 2019, has spotted a highly unusual looking structure in the distance.

Here are the images - one in normal view, the lower zoomed in.

The NASA Mars rovers have spotted odd looking rocks on Mars’s surface and there is of course the infamous “face on Mars” first spotted by the Viking Orbiter way back in 1977 - but later shown to be a natural feature in higher resolution images by later missions.

So what do you think the Yutu 2 moon rover has spied? A monolith à la 2001: A Space Odyssey? The remains of the temple of a now long extinct spacefaring civilisation? Somewhere young Dubliners may be finally able to afford to buy? I’m sure the commute is very doable...

According to Space.com, the China National Space Administration keeps a log of each of the rover's lunar days, which is around 29 Earth days, according to NASA. On its 36th lunar day, the rover spotted a cube-shaped object on the horizon about 260 feet away
