Christmas lights on cranes

Is it not an unnecessarily dangerous task? How long does it take to put them up? Are the lights left up all year and they just turn them on at Christmas?

These are some of my ponderings as I drive around Dublin these days. Any thoughts?

It wouldnt be my cup of tea but not necessarily unsafe because some cranes have a trolley with railings an' all so it would be hard enough to fall off while you're putting up the lights

It's to stop Santa from crashing into them. Elf and Safety gone mad.

One crane uses another to put up their lights, and vica versa.

It's a bit like running your gas off the electric.

I think they are there all year round.
