Tree end of life?

I got great usage out of this tree for about 5/6 christmas seasons and I really liked its warm, yellow glow. It’s one of those ones where the end of the “branches” light up.

When I plugged it in this year, no lights, except for when I plug it out it lights up for a second, after the plug is pulled out.

has it reached its end of life?

There’s a break in the wire, hanging on by a thread. Is it safe to tape up and leave on a timer, bit worried bout that 😳
