Anyone on here familiar with these?

Radiator in a converted attic, has an old HV50 on it, radiator hot at the bottom, no heat in it elsewhere. Feels like it needs to be bled… seems the HV50 isn’t working. Anything I can do apart from replacing it? Is there a way of bleeding the rad with it in place? Can’t find info on it online. Thanks!

Seeing as it's in the attic, it could easily be a lack of water in the radiator. You should investigate that first.

Thanks Wearb, any pointers on how I would do that?

First check your pressure gauge and if it's around 1 bar then you should have water at that bleed. Loosen it back a few turns to see if you get water or air there.

As always when working with water, there the potential of for a mess if you're not competent.

Bit of a puzzler, there’s no sign of the usual pressure gauge you would find beside an immersion tank. Nothing out in the boiler house, nothing under the sink or up in the attic. (It’s the girlfriend’s mothers house, her dad was a plumber so used to take care of all this) Might have to get a plumber in.

It could be an open system ie running off a small tank in the attic. That needs to be checked to see if it's about 1/3 to 1/2 full.
