I bought a google pixel 6 on Vodafone with a 2 year contract. I'm 2 months into it and want to get out of it and get a PAYG setup.

What's the penalty for cancelling a phone contract ? Return the phone ?

Payment of 22 months remaining on the contract.

That's why it's called a contract - you are contractually obligated to fulfill the terms you agreed to.

And if I went abroad to work or simply couldn't afford it what would happen? Neither is the case I just sort of wish I didn't get this thing on 2 year bloody contract.

It would be passed over to a debt collection agency who would pursue it on the operator's behalf. The phone itself would most likely be blacklisted and no longer work on any Irish network.

You could sell the phone and use the funds to buy out the remainder of the contract.

OK, so I'm stuck with this then.

Yeah. That's the deal with contracts .. it allows you to get the latest and greatest devices. But it is exactly that - a contract over a term for a set amount.

Why aren't you happy with your contract? Is there some sort of issue with the service you're being provided?
