Can I add a socket between fuseboard and socket?

I want to add an additional outdoor socket between the fuseboard and the existing twin outdoor socket. Is it as simple as inserting the socket between the board and the socket? i.e. power off, cut the cable, join like wire with like wire within the new socket.
