The December FIDE rating list is out. There are 21 active Irish players rated above 2200 and another 11 between 2150 and 2199.
That is "active" by FIDE's definition because some of the players on the following list have had no rated games since the start of Covid while others have been extremely busy in recent months and made big gains.
A few points: The Kanyamaralas, for example, have now more than recovered the points they lost in their first post-Covid tournament (Irish Championship).
Trisha, who actually gained 100 points on the latest list, is back on the Top 100 Girls list at number 87, helped by having a high K coefficient.
Both her brother Tarun and Tom O'Gorman are closing on the 2400 figure needed for the IM title if they can collect their norms, which should be only a matter of time. I would expect them to be the next to follow Conor Murphy in earning the title.
Zalan Nemeth hasn't quite reached 2200 yet but he is getting close.
Tarun crossed over 2400 and scored third IM norm. 2nd 9 round norm, one 7 round norm in ETC - so will have to wait for another 9 round norm before he can claim title.
Final IM norm achieved by Tarun Kanyamarala so he will become our newest IM. (He's previously been above 2400 live and has two other 9 round norms, and one 7 game norm). Possibly the first Irish IM title completed on Irish soil - someone might help me confirm that one though.
