Electric Shower Cutting out

    Hi,

I'm hoping for a bit of assistance with regards the following:

We have a Triton T80z electric shower, when it's run with the hot water, the shower cuts out after 6 or so minutes. I have to turn it off for about 10 minutes and then turn it back on so to start it again.

I initially thought it could be a heating coil issue, so I wanted to see what would happen if I ran it on cold.

Ran it on cold and it then cut out after roughly 4 minutes.

So I'm just wondering is it an easy fix or is it a case of replacing the shower unit.

Shower unit itself is about 6 years old if that info is any help.

Any ideas on what could be the issue would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the solenoid valve if the water is shutting off hot or cold. Don't know if you can simply buy a solenoid valve or they come with the flow valve assembly, in which case hardly worth renewing. Sleeper12 will soon advise.

I don't think triton supply solenoid coils on their own without the valve. You can try Triton 01 6286711 on Monday. If they don't you can get spurious ones online. I agree with what John was hinting at. It's not worth spending a lot on this shower so coil on its own is the way forward

There's a heating canister inside the shower with a coil inside that ..the coil heats the water but the coil gets covered in limscale causing the shower to over heat.theres a safety valve that sits on the heating canister and when the heating canister gets too hot from the limscalebthe safety valve opens to shut down the coil ..you then only get cold water coming out of the shower..if you shut the power to the shower the safety valve resets and you can get hot water frna minute or two before the valve will trip again.i think it's around 80!euro for the canister if you can fit it yourself ...or add another 50 euro for the shower repair man.earthridge.ie sell the heating canister and will even get the repair man to fit it.all in all about 130/140 euro.....another way around it is to buy a new model which is around 220 euro...all you have to do is turn of the water to the shower and the holes will be all ready there when you take off the old one.good luck

The only other thing I'm thinking is there's water spurting out on electrics inside the shower ...very easy to see that by opening the front of the shower and turning it on (just make sure you are holding the shower head away from the shower at the time)..I've actually had that happen in my shower...I also relace the heating canister once a year as I have well water with heavy limescale .it may be best if you are not good with these things to call the shower repair man ...

Thanks for the help lads, I have checked the inside of the unit, there is no stray water present.

We are in a hard water area as far as I'm aware so the limescale issue is quite possibly the problem.

I partly guessed that the best way to fix this was to change the unit but just wanted to ask 1st.

    Thanks again for the responses!

If an electric shower totally dies mid shower (power light, water & motor) then you most likely have a damaged pull cord switch or RCBO If it's just water cutting out then most likely the solenoid. Limescale won't cause water to stop flowing. Water getting into the unit & hitting the TCO on the element will cause it to trip the RCBO. If water is getting into the unit & hitting the TCO but not tripping then you have a dangerous setup & need to cal an electrician.
