Bank Of Ireland Text messages

    Hi all,

    I recently set up a joint account with BOI with my partner.

    Up until then I never did business with BOI.

    I know the history of the BOI messaging scam over the last 2 year however it is widely published that it was coincidental;

    people who banked with BOI received these messages, rather than any sort of data leak from BOI.

    Fast-forward last week I received my card, I have yet to activate it.

    1 day later I receive a text about suspicious behavior on the cards with a dodgy link to sign into my online account.

    What is the best way to address this?

    Delete the message and forget about it. I've received 4 or 5 and don't have a BOI account.

    I got one yesterday - never have had a BOI account. It has been especially prevalent in the last few days with Bank of Ireland being the name they are using.

    I also had "santander" texts in the summer - they don't operate here. And recently the old classic email about a big amount in a bank account has started to resurface.

    These guys send literally tens of thousands of texts to random numbers or to numbers farmed from data. It literally is a coincidence. As above, delete and forget it.
