seems Adrian will have a new slot every Wednesday night, we all know he is The King of Nightime Radio

AK was reading the hourly news on Newstalk's syndicated News service to the local stations a few months back.

I see Alan Cantwell (ex TV3) is also doing this.

You might be confused. It was Jeremy Dixon, Adrian's sidekick, who recently did some fill in work for Niall.

Either of them would be a good addition to a National station at nightime for a Talkshow like TodayFm or 2Fm.

Christ no they wouldn't. A small basket of deplorables.

Boylan is keeping lunchtimes, and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday night. Kennedy is doing Wednesday night only.

As has been said, its obviously a live audition process for who gets the talkie job long term. Boylan's contract is up in 18 months. When Kennedy was let go from 98, he said he wouldn't ever go back to nighttime, yet here we are.

Its pretty obvious that his cameos on Newstalk went down badly with listeners and here he is.

Its just symptomatic of the tectonic shift in radio. It has a drivetime role for news and current affairs. But live nightcaller shows? Dead. Magazine shows? Dying. Chart and New Music slots? Forget it. Those that buy music to keep, couldn't find 2FM on a tuner.

Radio has little or no future to entertain, only to inform. Just the live and breaking stuff with some variety and music off-peak. Otherwise its Pods and streaming.

If I were to crystal ball Irish broadcast radio in 2030 (all platforms), I'd say you'll have a steady regional network, though somewhat consolidated and no more than 3 national stations. Radio 1, a merged Today FM and Newstalk and a third covering special interests.

Any other national or multi-city brand will be gone. 2FM, Spin, Nova, CH 4FM, iRadio, all just memories.

In Dublin you may, just may, get one zombie survivor out of 98, 104, 102, Sunshine etc, in some sort of local magazine mix format.

But Boylan and Kennedy will be ancient history.

Classic Hits seems to have become nothing more than a dumping ground for out of work presenters who were popular on the Dublin airwaves 10/20 year's ago.

if they bring in an audience then job done, that's really what matters rather then where they were previously.

Yeh because the audience on that station has been huge!!!

any improvement if it happens is an improvement, better then nothing for a station that more or less duplicates others.

i am sure if they are stuck they could hire you in to sort it out since you are such an expert.

Oooh easy there Karen! Where did I say that I could do a better job?

Fact of the matter remains is that they have never had a huge audience regardless of who has been on air.

IMO, Hayes and Dixon got Kennedy in the door at CH. There's a good chance he may replace Boylan all together when his contract expires in about 18 months.

I enjoy the night time show better with Boylan purely for the reason he does the light-hearted segment with the other crew for the last 30 mins. It's easy listening going to bed. Similar to Adrian and Jeremy's old "get it off your chest" on fm104 years ago.

Which he blatantly stole from them. Last time I listened, he was even calling it "Get it off your chest" and using the La Femme d'Argent soundtrack. His show is a copy-paste of the old Phoneshow.
