Car dash light display won’t switch off

I did searches and I also asked my mechanic to check it over but he didn’t have any solution.

It’s quite an old car, 2001 Mercedes C200 kompressor however it passed our equivalent of NCT - controle technique in France just last week, yaaay

When you turn it off and remove the key the light on the dashboard stays on. Occasionally it switches off but it turns on again. I’ve checked after 30 minutes, an hour and even the next day and the dash is still on.

I knew nothing about electronics. I was hoping my mechanic would find an easy solution but he didn’t. I can go to another garage for another opinion.

When did this start? The car isn’t used much and the battery was let run down. I removed the battery, charged it in the house with a trickle charger and reinserted the battery. Everything else with the car is ok, maybe I damaged something but I don’t know. This is the only problem and the dash works perfect when driving. I just need it to turn off.

    Any opinions welcome :)

Electronics loves the proper voltages. I could start from easy things like erase the codes (if there any), disconnect the battery and charge the battery full over the nigh. It may or may not help but at least you have a full battery. Do not ever make a "black tape magic", it is not worth it.
