They are. The Government secretly want the prices of housing to go as high as possible.

Government would be happy for these vultures to come in an buy houses at 600K that were worth 150k during the recession just to keep the price of housing as high as possible.

Lets not kid ourselves at their supposed 33,000 houses a year. That is never going to happen.

    Government want:

    1) People that are paying cash buying all the apartments and houses in Ireland

    2) They want the prices of houses to Skyrocket for these Cuckoo funds to buy the houses to increase the prices of houses all around Ireland

    3) They want to price to single people out of buying houses as much as possible as dwindles down a large portion of the population.

    4) We are paying the 4th highest mortage loan rates in Europe for mortages but the countries ahead of us are justified as the price of housing is a fraction of the price.

Finna Fail and Fianna Gael know exactly what there doing. Its an absolute disgrace what there doing and they know exactly why there doing it as have no choice. Lets not kid ourselves, a skyscraper apartment can house 1,000 apartments but apparantly we can't do that even though the irish built Boston and New York City.

Part of the security held by NAMA in respect of debtor loans comprises approximately 577 hectares of residential development land in Ireland as at end-March 2021. This land is owned by NAMA debtors or, in the case of enforcement, is managed on behalf of debtors by duly appointed insolvency practitioners.

Section 10 of the NAMA Act requires NAMA to obtain the best financial return for the State

“If a flood of property is dumped on the market, it will be utterly unsustainable. That is one of the reasons we must establish NAMA and try to establish a floor in the market." - Brian Lenihan Minister for Finance on establishing NAMA

For more than a decade the Irish government and its agencies has been working against home buyers best interests really. The situation today is the culmination of awful policies. Started by the FF Green governments awful handling of the GFC and the banking fallout in Ireland and perpetuated by FG and the rest.

There are other factors such as inward migration at levels that do not match the infrastructure and pace of homebuilding etc. Zoning reform is probably long overdue but a massive debate too.

Dont forget the ones who want to block other people ever getting somewhere to own or even rent are homeowners.

SF would like voters to believe the shortage is a conspiracy to drive up prices

The convenient truth is they and others in opp are objecting to most developments that would increase supply and reduce price.

The recent one is a development in drumcondra of 1600 1 bed apts

1 bed apartments are no solution

They're a solution for people who want 1 bed apartments. They're not just boogeymen "transient workers" dreamt up by some Facebook group dedicated to "preserving" derelict sh*tholes.

SF will bring those fake refugees at the Polish border to this country and put them top of the housing lists.

Why not? Average household size has fallen, people are living longer, more people than ever live alone so find a 1bed is perfect.

Homes for older people to downsize too (and single people) are definitely needed. Not everyone needs 3 bedrooms but the options for downsizing are very limited.

I live in an estate of two and three bed houses, and whenever a two bed comes up for sale they go much faster then the 3 beds and often to singles or older couples.
