    Hello,

First time posting here, please go easy on me.

We have a dog a year now, Pomeranian/Jack Russell.

I've always had a fear of dogs and he has helped me with this.

Anyhow, what do you do if another dog runs over to yours?

I'm sure they just want to play, but our dog seems to be lead aggressive and will snarl and grizzle at them.

It happened today and I was shouting at the owner to come get his dog. (it was off the lead)The owner just kept saying ' he wont bite, he wont bite'. That's fine. but my dog may still get aggressive. That's why he's always on a lead.

Should I just leave the dogs to it and see what happens? This has really shook me.

    Thanks

Your dog may think that you need protection and is warning others to stay away. Stay calm and give them time to work it out themselves. Observe the interaction and give your dog quite reassurance as the new dog arrives for a friendly sniff. It is normal dog behaviour and will happen every few minutes when out for a walk. Both you and your dog need to get used to that. Shouting and pulling the lead puts too much negative energy into the situation.

Owners letting their dogs run over like that is really frustrating.

Our Trainer told us to stand in between the dogs, put yourself in front of your own dog. This especially of your dog is attacked by another dog.

my little dog is fine with other dogs coming over, but I still don’t like ppl letting their loose dogs run over. Dogs should meet on a lead, a quick sniff of each other as an intro. A loose dog running head on over there to your dog is not helping him.

Has your dog been socialised, with other dogs in the year you've owned it?

Dogs can pick up on human emotions, so maybe your fear of dogs is clear to your dog, also you shouting at the owner may cause panic in the dog.

Can you calmly approach another dog owner who has their dog on a lead. Try and strike up a conversation for a minute or two and see the reaction. Just tell someone their dog is cute and ask what age it is and see what your dogs reaction is like.
