hey Everyone and anyone. I’ve been told that my dog needs Acl surgery. I got a quote from a vet but was interested in what other people have paid for this in the past?

Do you mind me asking if you called around to see if that was a standard price? I was quoted 1500 and honestly thought it was a lot

There are two different types of it , one i was quoted 800 and the other 1600, the 1600 was the one i needed, currently on week 9 post op.

Physio was 50 a session afterwards, weve currently had 5 sessions of physio.

There's 4 commonly used types of surgery in Ireland. Cost varies between them significantly, also size of the dog has a big impact as well so not directly comparable. You'll also pay more for a specialist centre than a regular vets.

Also some people will be quoted cost including x-rays, bloods, post op care etc and others will charge all of those separately.

Ya good point , just to be clear my 1600 was everything from initial consultation to getting the stitches out 2 weeks post op.

TTA rapid was €2400 I think for Bailey and that was including all follow up checks etc. I’d be wary of going for a cheaper alternative eg tightrope that has a high failure rate for larger dogs if your dog is big/heavy.

I’ll also put it out there you can’t heal this injury with conservative management despite what you might read. At best you’ll be able to build some scar tissue and stabilise the joint until the next tear so you could end up spending a lot of time, effort and money for hydro/physio only to end back at square one.

tightrope! that's the other one! Ya i was given the option of healing it in my 12 year old or going for it, best decision going for it tbh , shes so much happier in herself, you could see it even 2 weeks after the op.

Same with Bailey. Just decided at 10 I didn’t want to restrict him forever. There was all broken ligament inside when the opened up the joint etc etc and like yourself - they’re back on short walks after 2 weeks.
