starter piano keyboard for 10 yr old

    Hi, Looking for first keyboard to try the kids out on and saw the SK-20066 (symths) which I liked as it had full sized keys..however the reviews were bad so not sure if you have any recommendation for a starter keyboard around 100 euros to test the waters with the kids to see if they will like the idea of playing the piano. Child i am targeting is 10. she might ask santa for it ... not sure yet

    Just spotted nice starter kit with gear4music. Not sure anyone has bought off them or knows much about them from customer perspective

    try go to a bricks and mortar store to ask advice, xmusic or Waltons around dublin would be best.

    narrowed it down to a rockjam 61 or a yamaha ypt260


    yamaha is bit dearer

    Yamaha are good. we had a clavinova for 25 years. never a second of trouble.

    weighted keys are essential.

    got caught on time and went for the yamaha.

    Not sure if anyone knows/recommends of a good online beginner tutorials videos to give the kid a feel for it. When I see some of this stick I will get proper in person lessons. Kid is 10.

    Try something like https://www.flowkey.com/

    It's not the only one; there are a few of them. You stick a tablet or laptop in front of you at the piano and go through the lessons nearly interactively. There are a few sample tutorials for free, see how much he enjoys doing it this way.

    You could even sign up for a a few months - the one above is something like €40 for 3 months. Sounds a bit steep but when you consider that an in-person lesson is €20 for half an hour, then €40 to see if he enjoys it could be money well spent.

    In theory you can learn everything online and from books, but he'll improve a lot faster with structured in-person lessons.

    Thanks. Yep at the moment its just to say if she takes to it. Plan is in person down the line if I see some desire.
