How does an AVC tax refund work?

I work for a large multi-national and am getting a bonus from work this year. I was thinking of putting it in my pension as an AVC. How does the tax refund work? Do you have to apply for it? Do they transfer to your bank account? Does it take long?

You can submit the AVC cert with your normal tax return.
The tax rebate will be paid into your bank a/c.

1
