Shower pump random cycling (Grundfos STN-02 B)

    Hi everyone,

The pump fitted to my apartment system (Grundfos, details below) is coming on and off randomly. We first suspected a leak and had a plumber out and address two potential sources of issues. We've since triple checked the entire system and could not find any leak/drips.

The pump would cycle every couple of hours, could be longer, could be shorter period of times. It would also sometimes cycle every couple of minutes and we have to reset it (ie unplug for 10 or so seconds and plug back) for it to go back to "normal" (ie, cycle only every hours or so). We unplug it overnight so to not put too much strain on it (and not go crazy with the noise it makes).

Would you have any explanation as to what could potentially cause this? Any help would be appreciated.

    Pump details: Grundfos Type: STN-2.0 B (IRL) Model: A 98284259 P5 15 13 W18114

Thanks everyone who could point in the right direction.

Is it connected to a toilet or sink aswell?

it is yes, no leaks though, at all. Did the food dye test for the toilets overnight, had glasses under every taps so to collect any potential drips. All were dried even after hours and the pump cycling multiple times. Toilets are not leaking from anywhere, the tank is full in the morning even after the pump being off all night.

thinking actually, how do I go about recharging the expansion vessels? just take the fuse out, pressure air into the vessels (0.5bar for cold and 1bar for hot), put fuse back in and be done? or is there a procedure to follow?

Think I got it! So, turned the pump off by taking out the fuse. Open taps (both cold and hot) to get some flow. Plugged my tyre pump in cold expansion vessel, set the tyre pump to appropriate target (.5 bar for this model water pump), switch tyre pump on, pressure builds and let out what's left of cold water in plumbing, turn cold tap off, let it build to target pressure. Repeat for hot (1.0 bar).

    Put fuse back in.

All seems well in the world again. I'm guessing there was an air bubble somewhere or something. Air in the system is the only explanation I can think of for the behaviour.

In any case, hope this holds and if someone passes by, the above worked for me, might work for you.
