What's App - Back up/Restore - something weird going on

    Had an issue with my phone, so switched my sim to a 2nd phone I have. My account was backed up to Google Drive. I ran into a few issues and ended up removing the access from Google drive as it was the only way I could get Whatsapp back working. It finally installed and there was no message data when I verified my number. It only shows 1 chat and the group chats Im part of with no message data. Ran a backup to Google again and did a fresh install on the phone. Now its restoring 2gb of media - but currently I've only 1 chat active and thats to my wife. So where the 2gb of data is I've no idea. It would be great if I could get message data back somehow but I fear there lost. Any ideas?

    I had something similar happen, ended up with chats but all the media had like the warning icon and couldn't see them if sent from me or people didn't have them on phone to re-download, looked in google drive and to me looked like the backup was damaged

    But when i went onto desktop whatsapp i could see them all ok, thats an idea if YOU have to get some pictures back

    I just delete whatsapp pictures and videos every so often as got up to 6GB, if there is stuff you want to keep then backup to google photos or a cloud in general

    Thanks for the reply Jeff. Yeah, the majority of photos/videos were backed up to Google Photos. There was some info in messages that i'd hoped id retrieve but looks like they are gone.

    No worries, only literally happened to me so shared my thoughts

    That's a pity, you should set-up WhatsApp on you laptop or PC (assuming you have one) then have that as extra "backup"
