Travelling from EU mainland to Ireland through UK - customs question

What if I have a boot full of Lego sets new in boxes and travel from mainland EU to Ireland through the UK? There is no custom duty in the EU if bought in the EU. VAT is paid. It is all above ground, I have receipts from legit stores. So I need to drive through the UK. What happens? What do I do, to get these boxes to Ireland without any complicated stuff in the UK. How do I prove that I will not offload the stuff in the UK? This is all for personal use, nothing commercial. Just don't want to end up losing the boxes or having to pay extra duties. I don't want to fill out complicated forms either. I hope it is going to be an uncomplicated affair.

    Thanks.

PS: If not the right forum, please move, thanks.

Theoretically you could be charged 20% UK vat entering the UK.

Receipts should be good enough for coming into Ireland.

Most private cars are waved through though.

Even for pass through? That means anyone with new stuff in their car have to pay VAT.

You are exporting goods out of the EU into a third country and back into the EU, it’s the exact same as people traveling from Germany, France, Austria to Italy and back via Switzerland. There is no such thing as ‘pass through’. It’s up to the Brits to decide what they want to do…. But as they are not even checking commercial traffic I doubt it will be a problem for a while at least.

BTW, there are also rules about driving a car or any vehicle into a third country and back into the EU, since you are also technically exporting/importing a high value item.

You can of course use a ferry that doesn't involve travelling via the UK.

Eh? Do you have a source for that?
