Hi - apologies if this has been cover somewhere

With regard to compliance with Part L 2019 under the definition of "major renovation" for renovation / extension works - the requirement is triggered where more than 25 % of the surface of the building envelope undergoes renovation

There is a reference - to achieving a cost optimal level in so far as this is technically, functionally and economically feasible (Maximum 125 kWh/m2 .yr – Minimum B2 building energy rating

Is there anyone who could explain in simple terms the reference in italics above -

is there an option to avoid the need to comply with 2019 Part L is certain circumstances and if so what are theses ?

grateful for assistance / comment on this

    thanks in advance

    Descol

In simple terms, when you undergo a major renovation of an existing building, you have to achieve and energy performance of 125 kWh/m2 /yr. Or where is it not technically feasible, do as much as possible. There alternate means to complying are outlined in (b) and table 7.

    (a) An energy performance of 125 kWh/m2 /yr when calculated in DEAP as set out in Table 7 (Column 2) or

    (b) Implementing the energy performance improvements as set out in Table 7 (Column 3) insofar as they are technically, functionally

No, not in any normal situation.

It may be possible in the instance of heritage items.
