    Hi all,

I am getting a new kitchen installed soon and would like to get stainless steel / aluminum countertops.

Has anyone ever got these installed? I have seen them in central Europe with integrated skins etc.

    Thanks

My kitchen is small and disjointed i.e standalone appliances and short lengths of counter.. I measured up the distances and got a local stainless steel workshop to make them, bend the corners and weld.. They were happy enough that I would cover any measuring mistakes and could sketch out exactly on paper what I wanted.. I bonded the pieces to 18mm ply and screwed them down to the cabinets. Several large commercial places blew me off and in retrospect my job was too small and sounded awkward, next time I went to smaller supplier with exactly specced measurements .

Some learnings and these are my own diy opinion.. To be complete the underlip should have been folded back or perhaps I should have framed it.. Just feels off when I run fingers underneat. Decide if you want splashback integrated.. You could do it and have a generous horizonal bed that you either postscribe to the wall or cut a channel and push it in - but that adds up to more foldinga and welding and would add to costs. Bonding to ply only needs to be minor i.e the steel never flexed or warped. Its very pricy, so its good if you can keep it to straighforward pieces and cover the fit and adjust your selves.. However that said - there is very little adjust with it.
