Hi, I have a pretty substantial blockage in my kitchen sink. I Went and bought a new U bend and fitted it only to discover the blockage is below the L bend on the main pipe. I tried drain unblocker but it did absolutely nothing. Is there any tool like a drain snake that works on L bends?

The blockage at my sink was in the horizontal pipe going to the outside shore. I cut a piece from this pipe at the shore end and inserted a length of steel wire with a hook at the end to clear the blockage. I my case, this was caused by a buildup of detergent, which had hardened. I then glued the piece of pipe back in place.

I don't suppose you could go into a bit more detail about gluing the pipe? maybe even a picture of your masterpiece! 😜

I couldn’t get the wire to travel o around the L bend, so cut a piece from the elbow and used the wire with hooked end to ream the pipe

You can get a spiral wire type of thing in the likes of Woddies for this type of problem. I'd start with this first. Unscrew the u-bend so that you are straight down a vertical pipe or horizontal pipe with as little bends downstream as possible.

Drain blocker can generate enormous heat so I'd be reluctant to try this, not first up anyway.
