    Hi all,

I just received an email from Glow Power basically telling me I should move to Boird Gáis before their prices go up yet again on the 28th of October. Just wondering if anyone else has received a similar email and what they intend to do as I'm not sure myself. Here's the email in full:

"Some very good news for our loyal customers.

Given that prices seem to be going up and up, we’ve teamed up with Bord Gais Energy (BGE) to entice you to an offer we think is hard to beat.

Firstly, thank you for being a loyal customer of Glowpower. We set about to introduce competitive pricing in the Irish energy market, but with wholesale electricity rates becoming unsustainably high, we have had to raise prices several times this year and we believe more price rises are on the way.

To protect our loyal customer base, and in the interest of genuine customer care, we are recommending that you switch supplier and move to Bord Gáis Energy (BGE) now to avoid our next price increase due on the 28th October. This gives you an opportunity to switch to a very competitive plan with a trusted Irish energy provider before our next price rise which is set for 28th of October.

By switching to Bord Gáis Energy you’ll be on BGE’s recently announced price freeze until quarter 2, 2022, and for customers with gas, they also offer dual fuel benefits as well as a generous rewards scheme. We’ll waive any of our termination fees as part of this switch.

    Why are we doing this?

As a small but growing business, when our costs increase, we have to pass these on. We know that consumers end up paying more and we’d rather be open and honest with you, which is why we think it’s important for you to act now and take up the offer with Bord Gáis Energy before the 28th of October.

You can easily make the switch online and the transition will be straightforward with no disruption to supply. All you need is a recent meter reading and your payment details and Bord Gáis Energy will do the rest. We will send you a final statement, so you’ll still need to keep your banking mandate active for final payments. BGE will be in touch with you via email to confirm the offer that you’ve seen online and will confirm when the transfer is complete.

You’ll end your contract with Glowpower, and we’ll waive any applicable termination fees as part of this switch. The Glowpower team believe this is the best way to keep our customers on a good deal in the market and that’s why we’re recommending you transfer as soon as possible to Bord Gáis Energy.

    How do I transfer?

Click the link HERE and you’ll be taken to a unique page for Glowpower customers who are able to take up this offer. Review the pricing and continue with the sign-up process. You’ll be given a confirmation page/email, so you know the process is underway. You must sign up on this page if you do want to avail of this offer. This is Bord Gáis Energy’s best offer. It’s a very competitive offer and we encourage customers to act now.

    Questions?

Can I shop around? Yes, the choice is yours and we suggest you refer to the price comparison websites below to see your options. However, your offer with Bord Gáis Energy is hot off the press and will not last.

Click on the following comparison website links if you do want to shop around.

    Switcher.ie

    Bonkers.ie

If you do switch via Switcher.ie or Bonkers.ie using the links we’ve provided, we’ll also waive the fees if you can confirm with us that you’ve made the switch by providing a copy of an email or confirmation confirming you’ve switched.

    Do I have to transfer?

No, the choice is yours, however we feel that you’ll be better off by moving to Bord Gáis Energy as soon as possible. Especially if you want to avoid the price rise on the 28th of October.

Do I have to transfer to Bord Gáis Energy?

No, the choice is yours, however we do recommend you make the switch to Bord Gáis Energy. To avoid any termination fees, the switch must be done using the link above. This helps BGE track any moves from Glowpower customers so they can be sure to offer you the deal.

What if I stay with Glowpower?

we’ll continue to bill you as normal. You will be affected by our new price changes. This is why we’re encouraging you to switch now.

    What if I’m in arrears?

We’ll discuss this with you if you do decide to switch. Arrears will not be waived and Glowpower’s terms and conditions for managing customer debt apply even after you switch.

What are the terms and conditions? Read the relevant terms and conditions as part of any new supplier sign-up so that you’re fully aware of your rights and responsibilities when it comes to transferring your electricity supply to another supplier.

Small power firms are going bust in the UK at a rapid rate; so this is probably them trying to get out of the market cleanly. Small operators don't have the capital to see if the current wholesale price rises are temporary or not so will need to put prices up hugely to survive.

That was nice of them all the same, My energy provider has let me leave without penalty also 👍🙂

They probably have not hedged their bets and bought forward contracts.

So they are paying spot prices and possibly cannot pass all the costs on, so best to offload customers.

Up until early this year wholesale gas was trading at about 2c - 2.4c per kWh.

It's currently at about 5c and some days it can be higher. (Day ahead pricing)

Add in passthrough charges, admin charges and you are at 8-9c per kWh and much higher some days.

So they would like you to move before things get worse

Got the same email giving 4 days to switch on a bank holiday when you can't get in touch via phone to ensure it's not a scam so a bit weary of hitting that link until I can verify it. The customer portal is acting up a bit as well as it won't let me send messages to support.

Don't expect anything from life, just be grateful to be alive.

I thought it was a SPAM email too. :D

Is the Bord Gais Energy deal actually a good one? If the Bonkers/Switcher calculators are up-to-date with the latest tariffs, in my case it may be worth moving to another supplier even though I take a 50 EUR hit.

Looks like Electric Ireland raises it tariffs today.

It is definitely a competitive deal (without seeing your usage, but unless it's really unusual) Bord Gais also guaranteed no price hikes until the spring, so that should be good till after paddys day.

I think the switching sites are accurate, they tell you whether price increase are factored in.
