Roll insulation for attic

Total DIY novice here, so bear with me.

I was talking to someone recently about attic insulation and I mentioned I just have the old fibreglass stuff since 1990 and that the house gets cold in Winter.

He said a quick remedy is to get some rolls of insulation for the attic that goes over the floorboards and is criss crossed. I should have pressed him more but I didn't.

Can someone give me more advice on this- is this insulation 'good', or at least decent? How much would it cost and where is the best place to get it, and is it easy to install myself?

Firstly Stop Touching Yourself; 'topping up' insulation is valid where the existing insulation is in good condition but just insufficient for the need.

It's normally applied by running the roll perpendicular to the joists, where the joists have already been fully filled with insulation. You don't apply it on top of the floorboards through, just in the areas where the joists are already exposed. To top-up insulation under floor-boards, you would need to lift these and add insulation.

The insulation for these jobs is the standard glass-wool type, bought in sufficient thickness to bring the roof up to a reasonable spec.

Effective if done right and not a difficult task. YouTube has many videos on it.
