131 VW Passat Aux Pulley loose

    hi,

my daughter was driving her 131 1.4tfsi Passat this morning and heard an almighty racket coming from the engine and suddenly the eml light came on as well as the temp gauge jumped up and a buzzer went off.

upon closer inspection there was a pulley on the engine guard ( see pic) and it appears that this pulley which drives the AUX belt ( water pump, alternator etc) had come off.

The car was towed to a local mechanic ( which I know) and I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to hers as I have never heard of this type of fault before ? .

    thanks in advance

Wonder if thats the crankshaft pulley with bolt as usually it is the lowest one and did you have work done on engine like timing chain.

Unsure if its damaged and could be replaced/refitted or there is an oil seal in that cover.

    Should not have come loose.

thanks and it is the lowest afaik. She has had the car 2 years now and apart from normal servicing the timing belt/chain has not been changed. very odd indeed and thanks for the reply.

    regards
