Will waterproofing products work on old jacket that has been washed many times in Aerial/Daz/etc?

I'm just reading up on products like NikWax (https://greatoutdoors.ie/shop/nikwax-300ml-tech-wash-and-tx-direct-twin-pack) which suggest to wash your rain jacket occasionally using one product, and then use another product to re-proof when it eventually loses its waterproofness.

So I'm just wondering will an old jacket that has been regularly thrown in the washwith the rest of my clothes -usually at 30degrees- still be fit for re-proofing? or does that process only really work well so long as you've been caring for the jacket using the special washing stuff over the years

I don't mind buying pricey specialised products for good jackets in future, just not sure whether to bother for an old one if the proofing might not work so well
