Does anyone know if you can to the UK from Ireland with just a birth certificate?

After 3 months, our baby's passport still hasn't arrived so just wondering if Ryanair and Aer Lingus will accept it as a valid form of identification?

I have tried to ask both airlines but they're not offering much advice. Ryanair told me to ask the Guards :)
