Opinions on Kitchen and Utility Layout

Bought a small bungalow last year and we're getting around to thinking about the kitchen and utility now. Both are small areas, extension is out of the question for the time being at least so we're doing the most with the space we have.

Want to make sure we're getting it as right as possible now and that there aren't other things we're completely missing. All opinions welcome.

Here's what we've got so far for the kitchen:

Tall cabinet in corner would be fridge freezer. Cabinet beside it would be pull our larder. Door in top corner leads to utility (which leads out the back door). Door closest to the "photographer" leads to hall.

Here's what we've got so far for the utility:

Tall cabinet on the left would be stacked washer/dryer. Tall cabinet to the right would be for cleaning supplies (mop, brush, vacuum etc). Gap is for laundry basket. Bins would under sink in pull out unit. White door is house back door and the ghost door leads back into the kitchen.

Anything that we could do better there or anything we're not thinking of maybe? Completely different layouts worth thinking about even? I'm numb to it at this stage!

Kitchen - It looks like the fridge freezer is right next to the wall/radiator. I would consider moving this over as the wall may stop you opening the door of the fridge properly. A small island with stools may work better for you than a table. Are you having a dishwasher?

Utility - looks good. Consider widening the right hand tall press to the edge of window to give more storage space.

Thanks for the input - re the fridge, we'd include a few inches with a blank panel to make sure it wasn't right next to the wall - good shout though. The radiator that's there is there on the Ikea editor and I can't figure out how to get rid of it 😂 The other radiator is real.

I might have a play around and see how an island would look/fit.

Re dishwasher - I never mentioned, but that'll be the unit to the right of the sink in the utility.

Ah yeah I see the dishwasher now. I think the plans are the best you can do with the space you have. RE the island - it may not work but it may provide you with extra storage space and double up as table and prep area. Best of luck with the redesign - Im sure it will work well for you.

What is the app used for the design?

Is it worthwhile putting a dishwasher in the utility at all ? You'll have to go to a different room to fill it - and bring everything back into the kitchen to put things in the cupboards ,

I tried this in a few configurations with an island, but couldn't get anything that made sense with the space we have without somewhere being a real squeeze. The places I can put the cooker are pretty limited too as it'll be difficult to ventilate it anywhere else, and using that corner as a corner unit wipes out the possibility to use it where it is currently.

That's a very fair point actually. That said, I had a similar setup in an old house we lived in and I didn't find it disruptive - in this case, the space is small and it's basically the same room - it's barely like walking from a room to another room at all. Our initial idea was to just knock the wall, but we decided to leave it to keep kitchen/utility separate.

The path from your cooker to your pantry, fridge and freezer is the longest in the kitchen and obstructed by furniture, could you move the rad to the other rad location and use the adjacent wall for the kitchen units. also as you in a single story consider a ceiling extractor that will vent out through the roof via the attic, you can place your cooker anywhere then. Also worth considering is moving the utility door away from the corner to allow your units to run right into the wall
