Door frames swollen due to water

    Hi All,

We had a pipe burst in the attic which caused water to leak between the ground floor ceiling and the first floor. The biggest problem I have now is 2 adjoining doors are no longer closing properly due to the frames swelling. One door will close with a lot of force if you push from the bottom where the opening is still OK but the other wont even fit in the frame anymore.

I was going to plane or sand the doors but I was worried about the frames then eventually shrinking when the water evaporates and the doors looking odd or even too small. Its been about 10 days since the water leaked.

Some pics attached of the doors/frames. You can see the gap between the wall and the frame that wasn't there before.

Patience. Give it time. The moisture will evaporate over the course of a month or 2 and things should improve when it has stabilised. Then when it is all dried out again you can see if things need adjusting because they won't go back exactly like before.

That's what I was thinking alright, only problem is people are uncomfortable using the bathroom without even being able to close the door let alone lock it, but I guess we can hang a sign outside 😂

If you want to help them along with drying and don't mind the extra energy usage you could run a dehumidifier for a few days. It'll help the house dry out quicker.

Looking at the gaps between the frame and wall I'd say you'll have to touch them up with some filler/paint eventually.

An ordinary door stopper wedge might be a handy temporary measure to keep the toilet door closed for the shy people.🤣

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
