Newstalk.com was available free-to-air over the last few years but seems to be missing lately despite re-scanning radio and TV channels. RTE radio stations 1, 2 are available. BBC radio 1, 2, 3 & 4, LBC etc. are available. I've re-scanned TV and radio channels without luck. Does anyone know how to re-tune to pick up Newstalk.ie again. TIA

They’ve gone off satellite, happened after the new owners,Bauer took over.

Some posters here thought bauer would save DAB in Ireland but instead the first thing they do is axe a digital platform.

It was there as a backup feed for their FM transmitters, not as a specific listening platform.

    Was it not in Stereo?

I'm not sure it is in stereo on any platform? I could be wrong though. Talk radio generally wouldn't need stereo.

L1011, Newstalk had a Sky EPG number, so was as a public service, not just a backup to transmitters in the past. It was some years ago briefly on Saorsat as a backup (in a hidden manner not on the EPG), around the time Newstalk moved from a dedicated (non-public) satellite distribution to RTE/2rn's terrestrial distribution to the main transmitter sites.

Having satellite also available as a backup came in great use for TV broadcasters (via Freeview) in the north-east of England in recent months after the Bilsdale transmitter fire disaster, a number of relays were quickly configured to be satellite fed, quickly restoring service to a significant proportion of viewers.

UCB Ireland are another Ireland radio service to have disappeared from Sky/FTA satellite in the past year. https://ucbireland.ie/news/newsletter/november-2020.php

However they have announced they are going on Saorview ( https://ucbireland.ie/news/ )

    Saorview

We are excited to be joining the Saorview platform this Autumn. We are currently adjusting all the technical equipment required and hope to be joining the platform sometime in November. We will keep you updated and let you know when the launch will be.

If you have been listeneing on Virgin Media, we apologise for the drop in service on this platform, we are currently trying to get things restored.
