Winter tights for the fuller figure ;)

Old age and general degeneration of the achilles and plantar fasciitis now makes cycling a better exercise option than walking.

Trying to put together decent riding kit for the winter when previously the bike always sat in the shed.

However, I'm having difficulty sourcing a decent pair of winter tights that will fit a 5'8 height and 38" waist human. The online ones in anything approaching the 30" leg length have a waist of about 31" which might just have fitted me 40 years ago but not nowadays. Hence I'm reluctant to order from Amazon as returns are costly. Decathalon (surprise surprise) seen to have FA in stock in Dublin.

I only cycle 10 to 20 km per dry day with maybe an odd 40 km spin along a greenway so high tech ain't required , decent padding and wind protection with some warmth is.

I don't mind spending up to €100 to get the right ones so any suggestions? I'm in North Kildare.

would it be easier to try to combine a shorts and leg warmers combination? i.e. potentially address the waistband and length requirements separately?

or else you could mail galibier with your question - they have a great reputation for customer support and may be able to help. you'd be able to combine shorts and leg warmers from their stock well within your budget anyway.

You could try these guys, they're based in the UK but ship worldwide. https://fatladattheback.com/

That’s a good idea. I never knew that these type of leg warmers existed and they are definitely an option with shorts - probably the easiest option. The only ones I ever saw previously were the woolly type my wife wore to aerobics classes back in the eighties 😂

Thanks, that’s a great site, I’d fit right in 😂 I’ve left my email for when what looks like the right tights and, new to me MTB trousers are back in stock.

    Try planetx https://www.planetx.co.uk/c/q/clothing/clothes/legwear/bib-tights

get the waist right , should be easy to adjust the length to suit your height. A couple of stitches or safety pins on the shoulder straps to take off some length in the body or overlap and legs if needed

Bear in mind that ordering from the UK e.g. with PlanetX will incur a Customs Charge + admin fee (€3.50) despite the probability of (UK) VAT being paid to PlanetX

You can also try AeroTechDesigns. I buy my stuff from them in the US. Very good quality and American sizing.

I use FedEx shipping option. It arrives usually within 4 days. A couple of weeks after delivery FedEx will bill you for customs and you have 30 days to pay it. But it beats using USPS who will hand off to AnPost and then there is a good chance it gets returned after weeks of waiting or you pay the import vat and it gets returned anyway.

Huge thread there about it : https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058200515/an-post-returning-packages-from-outside-the-eu-see-1st-post

I've ordered tight, a jacket and a skullcap from Bicycle Line in Italy. I got a 10% discount as well :)
