Help dealing with vision issues from diabetes

    hi everybody,

Hoping to ask advice if anybody has experience on this, but I will say I am asking for a friend of a friend, so am a little unsure of the correct terminology to use, but I will do my best.

A friend of mine has a relative who is suffering from vision loss as a result of diabetes. The man with this vision loss is elderly and lives alone. The biggest challenge that they are facing is that the vision impairment they have means that they are unable to cook for themselves, as their eyes are really sensitive to heat and steam (as well as wind and cold), so cooking is not possible as it causes problems. I was wondering if anybody knows any possible solutions to how they could deal with this?

I've had a look around google, and found one company in the US who manufacturer glasses that have special tints and special protective lenses, but was hoping to see if there may be any companies closer to home that could help. I'm also not sure if these special glasses would be the best approach.

Has anybody ever encountered this problem before and found a way to get around it?

    Thanks for any advice.

People with diabetes usually undergo rethina screening every year and if there is problem they will advise course of actions. Its free and if registered as diabetic s/he should have letter for appointment every single year. In the mean time please research into ketogenic diet and diabetes.
