Faulty motorised valve

    Hi

The central heating has stopped working and I believe the motorised valve is at fault. Is it likely that valve can stop working and so prevent the heating from firing up. There is a constant hum from the valve and I’m pretty sure it’s no longer working. Does it make sense to just go ahead and replace it? Thanks

Is it a mid position valve, if so, you will have three pipes. If its a two port valve you will only have two pipes but very unusual to have just one X 2 port valve, normally there's two or more, one for the HW and one (or more) for the CH.

Yes, there are two 2 port valves. One at the bottom and one at the top of the tank. The valve at the top is the one I think is no longer working. Thanks

Activate the other one (HW) by turning the cylinder stat up with HW programmed on or boost selected, if the boiler then fires up then very likely the other one is kaput. dont forget to return the cylinder stat to original setting (60C normally)

    OR/AND

Pull the manual override lever open and latch it in on the suspect valve, on some/most motorized vales but NOT Honeywell this will then fire the boiler as well.

    Had this fault last year.

Just replaced the motorized head part.

Thanks, I’m leaning that way also. Went through both steps above. The faulty valve the latch is so loose there is zero resistance. Valves could be 20 years old

Replaced the motorised valve but no success. Wondering now is it the room thermostat, think it’s time to call an electrician!
