Irish ATC Recruitment - 2022?

    Hi all,

In light of a recovery from the pandemic and air travel intra-Europe already reaching 80% of 2019 levels, is anybody aware of plans from the IAA to do a recruitment round next year? I'm sure we've all seen the news articles lately around ATC, but regardless, since joining to completion of OJT could take 2 years, surely it would be really crucial to open up recruitment very early 2022?

    Any knowledge/thoughts would be appreciated!

Not heard anything about them restarting this. Their website still says recruitment for the programme is temporarily suspended.

I believe 2 classes of students were axed last year as the pandemic hit. At one point overflights of Irish airspace dipped to 1980s traffic levels.

There's a recovery of course. There must be some percentage of current controllers due for retirement too.

All that might suggest they'll be looking in the next year or two. (But perhaps going back to those they rejected last year as they'd have passed the selection phases?)

The IAA is also due to split in to two organisations soon - Competent Authority and Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP), so that might slow this down again.

    Don't hold your breath!

There’s another thread on the forum, with somebody saying they got an email recently asking if they were still interested, with recruitment process to restart.
