Hi all, I have a couple of friends visiting the city for a few days midweek who have asked me where would be best to see some trad music and/or Irish dancing if possible.

As far as I know, live music is still technically against Covid restrictions and I'm not sure if places have resumed any sessions or not? Generally I would've just known of the Cobblestone, Celt, O'Donoghues (Baggot St) as safe bets on certain nights but I'm hoping somebody more familiar with the scene will be able to help me?

Live music has been allowed since Zapponegate and the 'clarification' and nearly everywhere is back at lt. Cobblestone, Pipers Corner should both have stuff on.

Don't think any of the Irish dancing show places are going yet; more people / higher costs; don't expect that back til next Summer.

Almost certain it hasn't been open since March 2020. Rather concerned that it might not at all as the long-term owner died in 2019.

Jesus, more trad music venues within walking/cycling distance of my house.

    I live in London 😂

Do the Dubs not like trad?

Thats my point. It seems to be tourist based in Dublin as the locals arent into it. Thats not the case in a lot of other parts of Ireland.

People enjoy it or are even really into it

Pipers Corner just off O'Connell Street. Owned by Sean Og Potts, son of Chieftains Sean Potts

Very sad if true. I used to love Hughes, and the dated 1980 seating didn't matter. It usually had space to sit down when The Cobblestone five minutes away had none. The owner was a tall, slim, gentle man - Tom? - if I recall and a Wexford man with short dark hair was the barman for years. There were usually two seisiúin on there each night, with a singing one in the front snug. Saw Brendan Gleeson, the actor, play the fiddle there a couple of times.

The Punch Bowl in Booterstown has music on a Tuesday night.

There'll be a demographics element to that. Also, in London you've got the homesick element.

An Góilín singers' group meet every Friday in Club na Múinteoirí on Parnell Square. No music at all, just traditional singing in Irish and English. You are welcome to join in if you like to sing (Christy Moore popped in to sing a few songs one night).

A great spot. It seems they're meeting on Zoom still, though. But one to note for your diary on your next visit.

Also, Club Chonradh na Gaeilge in the basement of Conradh na Gaeilge on Harcourt Street usually has trad music on most nights (but it's obviously Irish speaking): https://www.anclub.ie/
