"Frankfurt"-Hahn Airport

Has anybody flown Kerry to Frankfurt-Hahn lately? The Ryanair flights are for half nothing but the catch being the airport is actually in the middle of nowhere with no obvious way of actually getting to Frankfurt on public transport.

    🙈🙉🙊

"How do I get from Frankfurt to Hahn?

The best way to get from Hahn Airport (HHN) to Frankfurt am Main without a car is to line 610 shuttle and train which takes 3h 29m and costs €27 - €75."

Almost worth it just for the day trip.

It's in Rheinland-Pfalz if memory serves so not even the same Bundesland (or "province") as Frankfurt (Hessen).

You could just do a same day return for the shíts and giggles to get pissed in a local pub there and fly back home.

By time you add the extra transport your better off going with Lufthansa to fra.

Yeah my cousin did it and be the time ye add in the extra costs it’s not worth the flight

Flew there myself one, and while normally I don't mind Ryanair airports being "a bit" out of town, I swore I'd just fly to the main Frankfurt airport with some other carrier if ever going there again. The extra cost and extra time involved in getting from the Hahn airport into the city just isn't worth it, particularly on a shorter trip.

Frankfurt-Hahn isn't far from Luxembourg. 90 min drive

Lovely scenery in the vicinity. Rhine and Mosel valleys are nearby.

Yea close to places like Koblenz also.

But one really needs a car when using Hahn.

Hire cars can be rented in the terminal adjacent to the arrivals gate. It is a very compact airport.

Maybe not so bad then if you're planning the sort of touring holiday where it would be good to have a car to make your way around. But if you're just travelling to spend a few days in Frankfurt itself (as I was), then not the best option.

    supposedly declared insolvent today.

No idea what implications this has for flights. If it closes down I assume Ryanair will transfer flights to Frankfurt Main in the short term.

Yep, and it doesnt seem to be one of those strategic insolvencies to shaft suppliers and get a fresh start that you often hear of. They are proper broke.

Once Ryanair moved lots of flights to the real Frankfurt airport, pretty much removing Hahns reason for existence, they started loosing money and that was before Covid so they are deeper in trouble now with little prospect of recovery.

They are doing a brisk trade in Cargo but that isnt enough to pay the bills without the passenger trade so it wouldnt be surprising if it shuts in the immediate future.

I'm sure FRA has plenty of available slots at the moment but they will be no pushover for Ryanair's typical negotiation tactics. Which typically say that we will bring lots of passengers to your underused airport and help put you on the map. More likely they will be told to sod off to some other backwater and stop bothering us.

Paying their hefty bills for landing charges on time and (probably) having to use unionised baggage handlers will be enough to put Mick off.
