Writing a story involving an eight and twelve-year-old...!

Hey folks! I should say first that I'm not a parent, but I'm writing a thriller where eight and twelve-year-old sisters are forced to survive an isolated, hostile environment when their dad is incapacitated.

I was hoping I might ask parents here some questions about the story, how you might deal with a grieving child, etc, but I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask something like this! Let me know if it's okay to continue here... or if I should get the heck out. =)
