Godchild wants an iPad for Christmas

Hi all

My sister in law has asked me to source an iPad for my god daughter for Christmas and I'm an android person so help please.

10 inch size

400 euros budget (I assume reconditioned or second hand )

Looks like it's new so Inna box with buds etc (I can buy seperate if needed)

What model am I looking for ?

Get one now. I suspect there will be a serious shortage of electronic goods this Christmas. Apparently there are already shortages for the new iPhone. The iPad may well be ok but if you know already what she wants I would get it now just in case.

I caution against this, 64gb is very small storage if the child wants to have games on it.

If it's just for Netflix and Zoom etc then 64gb is fine, but a few games will quickly fill that machine.

You're very generous. I've bought a number of iPads for my nephew over the years (it's with him everywhere he goes) and each time kitted it out with an Otterbox (Defender or ReqQ). These are expensive and a little bit clumsy but the upside is that he has never damaged one. A thought: as this is a separate item, is there anybody else in the picture who could buy that as a separate present ?

I realise we're in an apple forum, but are you married to an iPad?

Often times ipad is used when in fact it's just a tablet that's needed.

There are Android options that could be a better fit.

Go with iPad I have wasted hundred on android ones and the kids end up not using them. Mate bought the Amazon ones as well and same

i bought the 2018 model off a refurbishment site, it’s cheaper than new but just bought the “like new” ones, kids won’t notice once it’s in a carry case anyway. I have an old iPad mini and IPad something from 2014 and they still work, the mini won’t let YouTube install anymore but runs Netflix etc

You need to remember, you need to spend serious money on a case, both my iPad mentioned above have screen smashed, kids are hard on them and even at 8 they will drop. Plus a set of head phones so they can listen in car while parents are not having to get ears blasted off

I don't mind this situation but I do feel that Santa should bring a quite modest pressie so that the kids whose family has loads of children and modest income won't be feeling that they get less from Santa than other kids.

iPad is handier for the parents to monitor as they use apple products so they can link accounts and permissions.

The Amazon ones are only good if you side load the Play Store onto them.

I agree though they tend to last 2or 3 years whereas the iPad is still useful 5+ years later.

just going on feedback from friends, I’m an Apple person with Mac/iPhone/iPad etc so maybe it rubs off onto kids but we have had numerous android tablets and they would walk past them and pick up the iPad with the cracked screen every time
