Reversing Around the Corner - Any Tips/Videos

    Hi Folks,

Does anybody have any links to videos etc. which gives a good insight into how best to set up to reverse around the corner?

I know this is definitely an area I will fail in during the test, so would like to put some effort into practicing this before getting a few more lessons from an instructor before sitting a test. I did previously doing reversing around the corner and I was only alright at it, but I would not have practiced since.

    Thanks

    1. If you can do otherwise, don't.
    2. Always reverse from the main road into the minor road, not the other way around - traffic approaching the junction from the minor road is generally expecting to come to a stop, traffic on the main road is not expecting you.

Hi, thanks for your reply but I am interested in tips/videos which will help in relation to this part of the driving test which is a mandatory part.

My wife's instructor had her stick a piece of blue tack on the rear screen as a sighting aid.

Hi OP, I passed my test during the summer & struggled with the reverse around the corner too. My instructor brought me to all of the possible corners that could be done (did mine in Carrick on Shannon so there are only a finite amount really). For every corner, he was able to say 'this is how much of a steer you need to do' and it worked every time. For e.g. there was one corner that needed a full 360 turn of the steering wheel just as the kerb went out of sight. One needed a steer and a half, one needed three quarter turn.

I know that this might not be useful in day-to-day life, however it made me do my reverse perfectly on the day then I could concentrate on looking around me checking mirrors & blind spots at all times.

Take your time and stay relaxed. If you rush it, you are more likely to make a mistake.

I think that this should be scrapped from driving test as who actually reverses around a cornor. Its silly in my head. Better to teach people to reverse into parking spots than do this.

It's several decades since I did my driving test and this was the manoeuvre I was most worried about. I had a driving lesson a couple of weeks before the test with a new instructor and asked him just to teach me that. He asked me to drive across town to an empty car park (so he could see in general how my driving was) and then we spent the hour just reversing in the car park. I went back to the same car park a couple of times by myself and just practiced and practiced .... Passed my test!!

Hi, not sure if you're still looking but if you look up Dane Tyge on youtube he has a few videos on this.

Also has a load of videos on driving in general and the test for anyone who might be interested 😊
