Im nearly bloody 39 and have hated my face for my entire life.

I wont lie, i never did the best job looking after the chompers and im paying for it now, I am missing about 10 teeth and want the lot gone and a 4up 4down permanent solution but when I brought it up with my dentist she nearly laughed - im not surprised, everytime I go i hand her a couple of grand!

I want my remaining teeth gone, and a one stop shop solution, why would she say im too young. I have spent about 5k on my teeth in the last 3 years and have an appointment tomorrow that will cost the bones of another 1k. I dont mind paying for them - id rather have them done here where I have somewhere to go should there be complications.

Has anyone experience with this - cost, time it takes etc?

    TIA

im not a dentist but that is incorrect, you either need implants or you don’t....your actual age of 39 has nothing to do with it.

I got a few recently and I’m around your age.

you are paying out thousands, and for what ? How many thousands will you pay over a lifetime to this dentist ? Get in touch with a reputable implant dentist... mine lecturers part time and is the clinical supervisor of Advanced Restorative Dentistry at the Dublin Dental School. If he says it’s ok for me to get them at my age you can be sure your age being around that too won’t prevent you from getting them.

I have had to have 2 implants in my upper row at the age of 35 and there was no suggestion of age being an issue. I would have imagined that, once you're a fully grown adult, the osseointegration (fusing of bone to implant) process would in all probability work better and quicker the younger you are.

I'm fairly sure a friend of mine got at least one implant in his 20s. Either way, your dentist is talking tosh.

Time wise, I had the extraction and implants done in one sitting which took just over an hour, had a temp bridge fitted the next day.

Would crowns or veneers not be a better option than implants? Not sure what the difference in cost would be over implants though

Lots of patient come in and ask about all on four implants to replace their teeth, but few are suitable. Its a very distructive process and for most people requires removal of a lot of otherwise fixable teeth to replace them with plastic teeth.

I would say if you have 30 odd k to spend (the cost of upper and lower all on 4 there or there abouts) you might be better with some crowns and some implants. Ask for a referral to a specialist, but dont be surprised if they suggest what plan would suit you best rather than the plan you think would be best.

This is pretty much what my dentist said today.

The main issues I have is I need braces, I need bridges and crowns, and itl be a constant yearly battle with my teeth to keep them right im done with them pretty much - i do not want dentures however.

She explained there is a high risk of them failing in about 1 years or so - and as you say it is destructive. I need to be sedated for every procedure which is an added cost and the thought of braces plus follow ups plus what I have spent already will probably equate to the 30k you mention.

Really do not know what to do - im so fed up of how I look and there not being a proper solution.

Are you looking to have all your top teeth removed and replaced with implants! If so your dentist is right, you shouldn't do it. Once done it can't be undone and the best teeth you have your own, not implants. Yes get the gaps filled by implants and you will probably need braces to widen your bite, I've had it done and it's not nice but it was well worth it.
