I think Nick Diaz stops Robbie. Lawler has been a punching bag for the last three years, if Diaz has anything left I think he stops him.

Love both, Nick's weight a huge concern really. You'd expect Robbie to run through him after the move up.

Just hope it's a good fight either way.

If you had to put a charity bet on, surely we'd all go Robbie?

Ignore that EE only saw your post now!

If I knew Nick was fit and fight ready I'd pick him but not being near weight says he isn't. Got to edge it to Lawler who has shown little for the last few years.

This has to be record for strikes thrown! Relentless first round. Nicks hands look good but what a round

Nick in worse state than I thought

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,452 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

    Well that's a disappointing end.

That was fantastic while it lasted, Robbie was starting to overwelm Nick. I enjoyed every second of that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,481 ✭✭✭Still Ill

Man, that was so much fun!

What a fight that was! Diaz cardio let him down but what do you expect.

Something obviously happened him during camp to be in such bad shape.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 146 ✭✭kneejerk

I'm not sure they should have let him fight in that condition. No other fighter would be allowed to, coming in so much over weight.

All the same it was fun while it lasted

He put up a far better fight than I expected.

    Shevchenko, Volkanovski both win.

Loved that fight while it lasted 👏

Hope so, really want Shevchenko/Nunes III. Only fight to make.

Don't like Ortega either so hoping Volk smashes him!

I think Max kinda exposed Ortega for what he is.. Volkanovski is just really really good. I still think he lost the second fight v Max though.

Fully agree with this. Fully expect Volk to power through Ortega!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,481 ✭✭✭Still Ill

    That was impressive

A very impressive fighter and overall human being. Such an all rounded fighter, she's an absolute joy to watch!

That third round was phenomenal That's right up there with the best fights I've seen. So good

Really impressive main event. Thought Ortega had him a few times. Great heart by both lads

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 738 ✭✭✭MikeyGorse

Wow, what a crazy main event! Volkanovski is an absolute machine, definitely thought he was going to tap in the third, what an engine! Ortega has the heart of a lion and what a way to finish. What a fight!

I completely agree about the Diaz/Lawler fight, I was asking myself if the commentators truly believed what they were saying, or felt they had to say it.

Diaz looked bad. He was throwing some decent combos but was moving at a glacial pace, no power and was clearly out of shape. He looked like a 48 year old in there, not a 38 year old.

It was nowhere near Tito v Chuck 3 levels of bad, but Nick should not have been there.

I am mystified by all the positive comments other places like discussion on Reddit. Obviously, there are people who have the same opinion as we have, but I was shocked at the high volume of people who thought it was a superb fight and a good showing from Diaz.

Overall, 266 was a good card. I actually over-hyped it in my own head to the extent that sitting down and watching it I was just like "That was OK" but none of the fights exactly blew me away. Ortega was solidly out-classed apart from those two commendable guillotine attempts.

Glad to see Hooker get a much-needed win, Schevchenko fight went exactly as we all imagined though surprised Lauren Murphy stuck it out that long. I actually think the prelim fights were better than the main card.

Diaz wasn't fit mentally or physically to fight. I felt really sorry for the guy. He needs professional help and shouldn't of been inside a cage with an opponent trying to take his head off. That was obvious from his interviews earlier in the week.

Lawler is a really classy guy, in the post fight interview he almost looked sad he'd beaten Diaz. His best days are long behind him.

Agree with above poster that the UFC commentary team were showing obvious favouritism to Ortega. Dunno how Herb Dean let him continue after round 3, he hadn't a clue where he was.

Diaz v Lawler was the draw when it came to this PPV when it comes to Joe Bloggs in America spending money on it. I'd hope Nick knows that and is paid really well for it.

On Shevo, she is great, but her and Nunes are coasting the last few years. Its not their fault their opponents are so inferior and they are not ducking anyone, but it does slightly damage their status somewhat that neither have any sort of memorable fight for years.

I agree with this, whatever about his cardio, which I didn't expect to let him down given the triathlons he's done, his striking was as slow as molasses. The amount Lawlor was able to slip was crazy and the ones that did land had nothing behind them. Its a shame to see what used be such a good fighter look like that, given how much of his career he has now missed. I'd like to have seen this fight 7 or 8 years ago, a pre-MacDonald Lawlor vs a sharper Diaz. It was disappointing to hear his post fight press conference too, I don't think anyone wants to see fighters who don't want to be in there.

I've no interest in seeing Schevchenko fight against anyone other than Nunes at this point. They are head and shoulders above everyone else in their divisions.

Jake Shields his mate, he was saying on twitter that Nick wanted to push the fight back 2 months because of a serious injury that stopped him trianing he literally only started light training 5 weeks before the fight, , but the UFC told him if he was out he would be replaced & he wouldn't get to fight till some time next year, Nick decided he would give it shot ,

Makes sense about his videos during the week about not wanting to be there but also said if he loses he 100% wants another fight ,
