I'm wondering about two Anne Clarke birth records I have, a year apart (20th April 1888 & 7th September 1889), see attached. I'm assuming the first Anne died and the next child born in the family was given the same name - having come across the practice before. Unfortunately I can't find a death record for the 1888 Anne, having been through all the infant Annes and infants Clarkes that died in the Bailieborough district in 1888-89, so I'm assuming it might be indexed incorrectly or (less likely I think) the death wasn't registered. I would appreciate any thoughts on my assumptions or any alternate theories please.

Very likely they did not register the death of the first baby Anne.

Have you looked at alternate Clarke spellings?

I've tried searching Clark, Clarke, Clarck, Clarcke, Clerk, Clercke but get the same 576 options across the country (33 in Bailieborough) for each on Irish Genealogy. Clearck and Clearcke give no results.

Have you been able to compare the baptisms?

Unfortunately no, the baptism records for the area on NLI don't stretch to 1888-89.

Assuming it's Bailieborough parish too, Rootsireland only has marriages.

Seems unlikely you'll be able to get a definitive answer but my professional experience says they didn't register the death.

Thanks for that, it's good to have a second opinion & I wanted to be sure I had all possibilities checked 👍️
